With so much going on in Orange County, it’s hard to keep track. That’s why I’ve created this website to better inform my constituents on the issues, programs and events affecting the First District.
The mission of the Orange County First District News is to:
- Create a dialogue with my constituents about county policies, programs and priorities
- Inform my constituents about the latest community news and events from the First District
- Share updates on important programs and services provided by the County of Orange
- Embrace open source and the opportunities of new technology
This isn’t an original idea. Not too long ago, Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky launched a news website to better inform his constituents of important issues and events. It was an experiment — more than a politician’s blog but not an independent news source. This blog, in many ways, is an extension of his experiment. As he so eloquently wrote:
Let me be clear, we’re not purporting to be a journalistic organization or to end-run traditional news outlets with propagandistic content. We are simply offering you another stop on your daily journey through the web for deeper coverage in areas we’ve long considered priorities: health, transportation, the environment, arts and culture, public safety, social services and the economy.
We also want to advance that objective with new ideas. To that end, all of the content on this website is subject to the Creative Commons- Attribution license. It’s the most broad of the six regularly used licenses and allows anyone to copy, distribute or display this content solely by attributing the source.
Licensees may copy, distribute, display and perform the work and make derivative works based on it — only if they give the author credit with a link to the original page.
